Starting to lean towards 2.4

Postby Wazzy-560 » Tue Oct 20, 2009 10:05 pm

So been building up my N/A SOHC and ehh power delievery sucks. I still need to get it dyno tuned and I want to get my degree able cam gear on. See what the dyno looks like

but basicly the power curve feels like crap. it pulls then doesn't then pulls.
Its not a smooth consistant power curve at all. Its like a 2stroker. I swear at 4500rpm i have to look down and go am i even accelerating then bam at 5.5-6 oh yeah its pulling hard.

the tuning has got to be messed up or is this juust how the lil 2.0's are?

2.4 should get me a lot more torquier and smoother curve right?

only sucks cause nothign will swap over. I don't really want to go tubro but if thats the most affordable way i may look into that.

for now though the motor is gonna get used and try and tweak tuning better.

2.0l SOHC.. mopar computer no fuel managment

Looks like a pretty smooth torque curve with decent low end.

yeah i gotta get on a dyno.

cause those lil dips at 3.5rpm and 4.5 rpm seem huge on my motor. and thats about exactly where the power feels like it dips.

get it tuned. not only will your peak power be better but your overall power will be better across the whole RPM curve.

with a lot of the bolt-ons like a #14 cam, gear, pcm, safc2, header, CAI on my 02 r/t. note: i also had a weak magnum to begin with. first drive post-tune noticeable.

So a 2003 PTCruiser engine would be a good candidate?

Resurrecting a old post but I'm doing a 2.4L and using megasquirt so a 2003 would have worked with the megasquirt.

However, since I am running a 1st gen I would have been looking for a pre-NGC ( < 2003). Which I actually have.
Your looking to swap a 2.4 into a second gen and I would think you would want the new NGC but I am not sure how the timing and fuel control will work. But the SRT motor swaps in not sure all what they do to make it work but I'm sure it would be along the same lines.

Easiest way would probably find a used SRT motor and whatever you need to swap it in and build it however way you want to go with it.
But you can buy a whole SRT-4 with no to many miles on it for $9500 these days so unless you already have a 2nd gen car with supplemental value to it keep it. Otherwise sell it and get a SRT-4.

a 2.4 wont use the wiring harness from a sohc car. you have to start with a dohc car (the cheap way) or rewire the whole harness from under the dash and through the whole engine bay....it sucks, i know from experience

you dont have to rewire inside.. you can modify a SOHC harness just as easily as a DOHC harness. the only real difference between the SOHC and DOHC harnesses is on the SOHC harness you need to lengthen the coolant temp sensor wires (on a SOHC the sensor is on the driverside of the head, on a DOHC its over on the coolant waterneck).
