Board not marking topics read?

Post by -db » Thu Aug 23, 2007 8:17 am

Anyone else have this problem? After I read a topic and go back to the main forum the topic still shows I have not read it.

I am clicking the link to go back, not using the back button.

It also does this when I make a post, it shows I didn't view it after posting.

doug i bet your using firefox. firefox stores the pages in history intact, so hitting the back button goes back to the previous page as it was when you loaded it. it keeps down on server load, you can disable it and it frees up the memory usage but pages load slower cause it redownloads the content.

Yes I am. This has just started happening though. Maybe the past week or so, and I don't remember it updating within that time.

Also, I am not using the back button. I use the link at the top left corner, or the bottom of the page.

ok then its due to the session cookie, close the browser and open it again and it should show only new posts after you closed it (which logs you out, and when you revisit you auto log back in due to another cookie) its all based on cookies, its been this way for awhile, im just used to it i guess

yeah its a timebased calculation, not sure what the timeout is but if you log out (close browser) log back in (Reopen browser) that timeout resets.

I had to manually log out as I have it set to auto log in.
